Breaking Barriers:
This beautiful world that we are residing in is the world
which is facing a major autonomy issue. Be it the freedom for the women to work
or to wear what they want or to have children. Simply put, it is the autonomy
of how you want to live. So, what exactly is the barrier which is coming in
between? What is stopping you to become who you want? It is the 'change'.
Change in itself is a barrier. Why do most of the women face problem when they
say that they want to work and earn. It is because society is not used to that
situation. It is the change in the society that is acting as a barrier. From
the very beginning people have expected women to practice household work and
have expected men to go out and earn. Therefore,
this development in the society in the minds of the people is the barrier.
Why in a county of white people 'black faces a
problem'? Because it is the difference,
it is the change. For them, black is a change in the white. It is important for
people to see change as something normal. We need to look at the differences in
a normal way and not in a judgmental
way. It is okay to be different. Even If
someone is short in height than normal, if someone is fat than normal, if
someone is a widow and then also working, if black gets married to white, its
normal. Let us break this barrier of change, of difference and allow everyone
in this world to exercise autonomy in a beautiful proud way.
I myself is a girl of short height. Everywhere I go, people
look at me in an awkward way. I always wondered what would it be like if people
look at me in a normal way? That would make me comfortable. That would make me
feel it is normal to look different. To be different is always a barrier for
me. And then there is a friend of mine who is a bit fat and she do not like
socializing with people, when asked why she says that whenever she tries to
make friends, they all start laughing, making her uncomfortable, so she stopped
making friends. Is this a kind of society that we want? Probably no.
India is a country of diversity where people from different
religions, cultures, caste and colors live together. Even in such a diversity
one can observe an awkward reaction whenever a change is witnessed. So, if one
can see this barrier of change in this kind of environment, think about the
rest of the world. Think about the Hindus living in a Muslim majority country.
Think about a black living in a white majority country, think about a fat
person doing a ramp walk in a fashion show. None of this is logically wrong or
unacceptable. But this is how a barrier of change or difference work. Break
this barrier and notice other barriers break themselves. Witness and love ‘change’.
THANKYOU.
